John David Barnes joined St. Thomas as the Associate Rector on June 4th, 2006 – the Day of Pentecost.  John David is a native Alabamian, from the city of Gadsden.  He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies.  J.D. met his wife of over 10 years, Amanda, through their work in the Computer-Based Honors Program at UA.  He is a May 2006 graduate of the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas, holding a Master of Divinity.  Amanda and J.D. are the proud parents of two boys: Joseph (born November 15, 2001) and Samuel (born August 27, 2006).

John David is a fan of collegiate sports – and particularly anything that involves the Crimson Tide.  He loves to laugh while watching comedy re-runs on late night TV.  He has sometimes been known to enjoy home improvement jobs which fall within his “limited handyman skill set.”  He is very interested in environmental issues, because it falls within the realm of good stewardship of God’s creation.  J.D. is committed to improving the state of Christian Education/Formation within the Episcopal Church and to evangelism, done in a “uniquely Anglican” way.
