Helping Our Community
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." --Matthew 25:35 - 36
St. Thomas is a caring church with a warm heart and a generous hand in support of those less fortunate. We devote a big share of our outreach energies to local programs and organizations serving those in need. Notable among them:
- We support Habitat for Humanity with other local churches to fund and build a house a year. Half to a quarter of the profit from our annual Lobsterfest benefit Habitat.
- CASA Temps, an annual one-day effort to assist those needing help preparing their homes for the colder months. Our work for CASA ranges from as little as an hour with two or three parishioners covering windows with plastic to joining a group of twenty-five for a day's work sealing a home with numerous cracks and rebuilding half the roof.
- Meals on Wheels, a program that provides a warm meal and visit to many shut-ins in Huntsville.
- First Stop, our community's response to those in need of a home, receive financial support, meal packs and warm clothing for the colder months.
- We collect goods for the Food Pantry through a collection point in our church where parishioners can drop off donations.
Beyond our time and talent involvement, St. Thomas provides annual financial support to a total of twenty-three worthy organizations in the Huntsville area. The Outreach Committee directs that support.
We do all this in the name of the Lord. We meet on the first Monday of every month and look forward to seeing new faces at each meeting. Please join us! Contact Dick Branick for more information.
