Music at St. Thomas
"Sing once, worship twice," is the motto for the St. Thomas music program. For many years we have enjoyed a reputation for quality music. Many of our choirmasters and organists have been accomplished, talented musicians. Our current organist, Susan Fletcher, is no exception, as an award-winning composer. We perform pieces that span a broad range of church music and musical tastes. We worship with "high church" music at Christmas and Easter, have instrumentalists on occasion, and sing guitar music from our "Alleluia" hymnal. Througout our history, music has played a significant role in enriching our worship and in drawing new members to the church.
The Adult Choir
Our voluteer adult choir sings for the regular later Sunday morning service and for some holy days and feast days. Their repertoire ranges from Renaissance music to modern works. Special choir traditions at St. Thomas are the Good Friday Meditation on the Passion of Christ with Carols, and the Advent Festival of Lessons and Carols, where they are joined by the Cherub Choir.
New members are always welcome. The ability to read music is not required; if you can carry a tune and blend your voice with others you will be warmly welcomed. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from mid-August through May. Contact Susan Fletcher for more information.
The Cherub Choir
The St. Thomas Cherub choir invites all children in Grades K-5. Led by Cameron Starnes, they sing about once a month at different services at St. Thomas, and also learn some musical basics like singing, playing instruments and reading music. They have sung at the Easter Vigil for the past two years and the children really love ringing their bells and staying up late! They always sing at the early Christmas Eve service, join the Adult Choir at the Advent Festival of Lessons and Carols, and at the Pentecost Sunday service on Green Mountain.
